B2S Lunch Ideas

I, like the majority of all other parents, am looking forward to the start of school. What I’m honestly dreading is making school lunches everyday for the kids. But I know the importance of feeding my kids high quality ingredients so I do it anyway. My husband, honestly, makes the majority of the lunches so I’m not sure why I’m complaining BUT when I do have to make a lunch I don’t love doing it. Ironically cooking and food preparation is my love language. I just feel like after a full day of work, animal care, solving a slew of problems I am so burnt out I don’t have the capacity to make a lunch. I am over thinking and just want an EZ button.

Here’s the good news. Since I have figured out why I hate making lunches so much I created a lunch idea guide for y’all to follow that should make making lunches a breeze. Utilizing this list should be plug and play on the daily. If your kids are super picky you can use this list as a starting point to build your own list.

Ok, so now that we have the food portion taken care of let’s talk about the food storage and containers. I am a huge proponent of any lunch boxes that are glass and or stainless steel. I don’t trust any plastic products, especially if you will be using your dishwashers to clean the lunch box every night.

I also believe that when feeding your kids a healthy lunch at school they don’t want to feel like the weird kid at the table eating healthy food. One way to combat this is to make their lunch more “fun.” Use food picks for their fruits, make snack kebabs, use cookie cutters to form shapes with their sandwiches - the more creative you are the more exciting their lunch becomes. It does require more effort, no doubt about that, BUT they do eat more when you make the lunch entertaining.
